Hand Surgery

Hand surgery traditionally has been shared between plastic surgeons and orthopaedic surgeons. In Australia, in Queensland it is predominantly done by orthopaedic surgeons but in NSW and Victoria it is mostly performed by Plastic Surgeons

Hand surgery is essentially divided into traumatic injuries or elective conditions. Traumatic injuries may happen at work, at home or from recreational accidents. These include broken fingers, cuts, injuries to the nail, tendons, nerves, blood vessels and joints. Elective procedures include Carpal Tunnel and Cubital Tunnel release, Dupuytren's repair, release of trigger fingers and De Quervain’s, or removal of Ganglion cyst.
